Our Vision

As remote work becomes the new normal, cafés have evolved into more than just places to grab coffee — they’re the new offices, meeting rooms, and creative studios for thousands of professionals. Yet, there’s no reliable way to find a space that truly supports productivity. With Desko, our vision is to transform the way remote workers discover, compare, and reserve cafés by focusing on what truly matters: functionality, trust, and emotional fit.

Desk Research

Before diving into wireframes or interface design, I explored online articles, forums, and behavior reports from sources like Google Search, Reddit, and design communities to understand pain points from both the remote worker and the café owner/operator perspective.

This helped identify key challenges and highlight what really matters to both sides of the experience.

User’s Perspective

  • People waste time trying cafés that aren’t work-friendly

  • No easy way to know if a café is too noisy or too crowded

  • Lack of reliable info about WiFi, outlets, or seating

  • Photos on Google or Instagram are not realistic for work needs

  • No ability to book or filter cafés based on actual work requirements

Cafe Perspective

  • No platform to highlight their work-friendly features

  • Struggle to attract loyal remote workers during off-peak hours

  • Hard to communicate availability or current ambiance

  • Compete on aesthetics instead of functionality

  • Lack of reviews focused on the work experience, not food

Initial Problem Discovery

Remote workers often face frustrating surprises when working from cafés:

  • Unstable WiFi or no outlets

  • Loud environments, poor lighting

  • No way to check availability in real-time

  • No reservation system or personalization

  • Google Maps and Instagram focus on aesthetics, not functionality

This trial-and-error process wastes time, energy, and productivity — and there's no existing solution built specifically for the remote work lifestyle.
